(Mis)Representation of Academics
A recent article in the Chronicle of Higher Education challenges assumptions that academics work minimally, sometimes with the luxury of having summer vacation. Author Bruce B. Henderson is concerned by how misinformed the public is about what academics actually do in their role. Many people, he argues, believe that academics only spend time teaching and researching in the hope of getting their work published; but beyond that, there is a lack of knowledge about what academics do when they are not publishing.
